Shiv Nadar Career:
After completing his education, Shiv Nadar commenced his career in 1967 in a company with the name Walchand Group’s Coper Engineering based in Pune, but then he shifted to Delhi Cloth Mills.
In 1976, Shiv decided to quit his job in DCM and founded his own company with the assistance of his six close colleagues that included Ajai Chowdhry, Arjun Malhotra, Subhash Arora, D.S Puri, and Yogesh Vaidya. He named the company Microcomp Limited but later was called Hindustan Computer Limited.
Initially, the company dealt with the production and selling of calculators and microprocessors. In 1977, George Fernandez provided HCL a greater market space to sell their product throughout the country. In 1980, Shiv started selling computer hardware in Singapore by establishing Far East Computers. The sales worth of his company reached up to 10 lakhs in their first year.
In 1981, Shiv invested in the National Institute of Information Technology and remained its biggest shareholder till 2003. Shiv Nadar also worked in the promotion of education. He founded Sri Subramaniya Nadar College of Engineering in Chennai in 1996 and a school with quality education for many needy children.
He opened Shiv Nadar university in 2011 in Greater Noida. He was honored with Padma Bhushan in 2008 for his contribution to the IT Industry of the state. He was also awarded an honorary Doctorate degree from Madras University in 2007.
